Development of Once Upon a Time
Spare Tyre has secured further funding and an external researcher for Once Upon a Time, interactive storytelling for people with dementia.
We are delighted to announce that London Catalyst has awarded Spare Tyre £5,000. The money will go towards researching and developing the most effective methods of working creatively with older people with dementia in order to improve their health and well-being. It will also help fund tours of Once Upon a Time to residential homes and centres for older people.
Spare Tyre is extremely pleased to be partnering with Dr Martin Orrell, Professor of Ageing and Mental Health, University College London. Dr Orrell observed a Once Upon a Time workshop and his team will be assisting Spare Tyre to collate an evidence base as to the scientific and medical impact of the programme.
Once Upon a Time involves storytelling incorporating a layering of touch, sound, taste, light, smell, to create a safe and beautiful environment and a moment of shared joy. Participants take an active part in the sessions, interacting by shining coloured lights, moving to music, and interacting with multimedia projections that respond to clapping and voice.
Once Upon a Time will be touring London and UK-wide this Autumn, and again in early 2012. If you are interested in booking Once Upon a Time for your resource centre, residential home, or group, email Vicky or call 020 7061 6454.
