BBC Radio Drama London have been working in association with Spare Tyre to produce four short radio plays available on the Audiotheque website.

This is the first time BBC Radio Drama has ever worked with writers with learning disabilities. It is also the first time members of Spare Tyre's Company of Artists, have worked with radio producers.

The partnership was of mutual benefit enabling all involved to experience new ways of working, cultures and voices.

Spare Tyre hopes it will lead to more learning disabled writers and artists working with the BBC in the future.

Jeremy Mortimer Executive Producer BBC Radio Drama:

The experience has taught me never to make assumptions about people’s interests and capability. It has been refreshing to look at drama from a different viewpoint. The work has exceeded our expectations.

The four Artists were:

Daniel Berryman, Ellie Mason, Lucy Meah and David Munns.

You can listen to the final plays by clicking on the links below:

A Gambler’s Way of Life by Daniel Berryman

With thanks to Equity.

All the Artists involved have participated in Go inc to work, an assisted employment programme for Artists with learning disabilities wanting to enter the creative industries. We gratefully acknowledge the funds and support we received from Trust for London.
