Once Upon a Time on tour
Once Upon a Time, our interactive storytelling programe for older people with dementia is now on tour to residential homes in London, and will later tour to Plymouth and Edinburgh.
The programme consists of hour-long workshops that create a multi-sensory experience to communicate with older people with dementia on their terms. Nick Cattermole, Helen Preddy and Heba Solimon are delivering the workshops which use multi-media projection, light, taste, touch, sound and smell to create an immersive environment.
Once Upon a Time is believed to have a positive effect medically for participants. Spare Tyre will be partnering with scientists in order to collate evidence as to the scientific and medical impact of the programme.
As part of the programme, staff at the residential homes will be supported by Spare Tyre artists to develop their own techniques of communicating in a multi-sensory way, communicating in a person-centred way. With Once Upon a Time Spare Tyre hopes to effect change in the sector that works with older people with dementia.
Once Upon a Time will be touring again in Spring 2012. To find out more call 020 7061 6454 or email Vicky.
