Website timeline tracks Spare Tyre’s History
Spare Tyre was founded by in 1979 and has spent over 30 years using personal stories to make ground-breaking shows.
Louise Rigglesford, on placement from Central School of Speech and Drama spent many hours digging through our dusty archives and speaking to Spare Tyre veterans, to create a timeline tracking our history.
You can see the timeline here.
Spare Tyre began life when a group of women wrote and performed a play about their personal experiences of body image. This technique of focussing on the personal to illustrate a wider political point became the Spare Tyre trademark. Since then the Company has created dozens of theatre productions developed entirely from personal stories from different voiceless communities.
Over the next few years we will be looking back to our roots to celebrate the voices of women from a contemporary perspective with new project Picture Me. We are kicking off Picture Me March 2012 with a showcase at New Diorama Theatre. There will be global stories from women young and old, compelling readings and truthful performances.
